Are the VPS backed up?

All VPS nodes are located on RAID disk arrays however this is not the same as having a backup of your VPS.

An automated backup solution is coming however in the meanwhile you are able to purchase our server backup solution. Contact our sales staff for more details.

What operating systems distributions are available?

Currently we have the following operating systems available.

Windows 2008 R2 Web Server Edition
Windows 2008 R2 Standard Server Edition
Debian 5 (Lenny)

Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid LTS)

Can I upgrade my VPS?

Yes you can.

What am I able to do with my VPS?

Anything you like so long as it is legal and complies with our acceptable usage policy and terms and conditions. You have root / administrator access so you are in control of what you do on your VPS.

What software can I install?

Anything you like providing it's legal - the responsibility is yours for ensuring anything you install is correctly licenced.

How do I make sure that I get a fair share of CPU?

Your CPU share is guaranteed and weighted to ensure that you get the minimum your VPS is configured for and

Do I get Administrator or Root access?

Your account has full administrative rights when you connect either via SSH (Linux) or RDP (Windows)

How many other VPS share the server I'm on?

No more than 15 at most, although typically the figure is around 8 VPS installed on any physical node. We've gone to great lengths to ensure that the resources are allocated fairly and that each VPS performs optimally.

On Windows VPS is ASP.NET installed?

All VPS are installed as standard installs and so you can choose to install (or not) asp.net, IIS or anything else that ships with a normal install.

How many IP addresses do I get?

The default allocation is listed on the ordering page. By default one address is installed and if your allocation allows the other is supplied to you on request to support@hostinguk.net.

Can I get more than the default allocation of IP addresses?

You can providing your request is deemed reasonable and that any RIPE requirements are satisfied. We make an administration charge of £12 per annum for each additional IP address.

What SLA do you offer?

Like any hosting company we need to perform network maintenance and server maintenance occasionally and when we do we'll be sure to inform you via e-mail that we are going to do so. If an emergency situation could occur where we need to do something without formal notice we'll let you know why when we're done dealing with it.

This is rare so don't expect any interruptions soon. Our BGP network has multiple paths and so even when we lose a connection we can keep running.

We're confident enough to offer a 100% uptime guarantee on our network and will credit you a full day for every hour of downtime on our network. Download our SLA for more details.

Can I buy two VPS and create a cluster?

Yes you are able to do this.

What about DNS?

Any customers with domains on our DNS are able to manage them for free using our control panel. You're able to set up and amend DNS records instantly. You are of course free to set up your own DNS server on your VPS and use that as as an alternative.
